Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How much does a service cost?
In short, it's difficult to say! Edinburgh is a very tough city on both frames and components, and the long hard winters and salt on the roads can mean that without maintenance we see many bikes that require a lot of work. Our most basic service, the Safety Check covers all basic adjustments and maintenance - the adjustment of gears and brakes, lubing of chains, inflation of tyres for only £30. - but in many cases this is not enough to keep your bike performing well.
If you bring your bike in we will give you an estimate before you leave, and should we discover extra work during the service we'll give you a call to confirm you want to go ahead. We have a hard earned reputation for honesty, and reliable, solid technical advice.
Q: How should I care for my new bike?
The best way to care for your bike is to clean and degrease it regularly, using a decent quality degreaser like those we have for sale in the shop. Salt on the roads and grit in your drive train will dramatically shorten the lifespan of your expensive new components, meaning you may have to visit us more than you would like!
Q: How often should I have my bike serviced?
For a hard working commuter, it's best to have a Standard Service at least every 6 months, and a Full Service at least annually. This is the best way to protect your investment and keep it running smoothly.
Q: Can I get a new bike through the cycle to work scheme?
We operate several cycle to work schemes, including all of the most popular ones - so chances are that if your employer offers it, we can supply you with a shiny new bike - Bromptons, and clearance bikes included. Drop us a line on firstname.lastname@example.org to discuss what you are looking for.
Q: I hired a carbon road bike for pennies in Majorca, when are your hire prices higher?
The realities of running a hire business in the wettest, saltiest climate you are likely to find mean that every bike needs a thorough service and often replacement parts after every hire. We don't skimp on our standards, and we're sure you'll not be disappointed with the smooth and problem free runnings on all of our hire bikes - from the Meteors all the way up to the Helium.
